Private workspace

Your private workspace is the isolated space where John runs, remembers, and keeps files. Conversations and connected work stay there. They are never mixed with another customer’s data.

You manage it from the dashboard (Agent). New workspaces are created in the EU.

You need:

First boot can take several minutes. Wait until status shows running before you expect replies. Live logs on the dashboard show progress while it is coming up.

During early access there is a global cap on how many workspaces can run at once. If creation is waitlisted, follow the on-screen guidance. You are not broken; capacity opens up as others pause or leave.

  • Stop - John is unavailable until you start again. Use this when you want him off.
  • Start - brings a stopped workspace back.
  • Delete - removes the running workspace. Delete can take a little time; do not mash recreate until the dashboard is ready. Deleting and recreating back-to-back is supported.

Your memory and files are stored separately from the running computer. Delete is serious: follow the in-app confirmation. If you only need to apply settings, use Update John instead of delete.

In Settings you can let John sleep after a couple of quiet hours and wake on the next message.

  • Memory and files stay as they are.
  • You stop paying for awake workspace time while he sleeps. Storage is still charged daily.
  • Waking takes a few minutes, so the first reply after a quiet night is slower.
  • Scheduled tasks wake him a few minutes early so they can still run on time.

The dashboard shows how much of your private workspace storage you are using. Keep large artifacts you do not need off the workspace; they count against the same space John uses for memory and files.

Update John (or Save and update John in Settings) refreshes the private workspace so new config takes effect. Expect about three minutes of downtime. Your files and memory stay.

Use it after:

  • Persona, timezone, language, or response style you want live now
  • Slack or Telegram connection and allowlist changes
  • Workspace email enable/rename/allowlist
  • Image model changes (the product will say when this is required)
  • Enabling Apps for the first time so he can build and publish

Usually does not need Update John:

  • Skill library selection (saved skills reach John within a couple of minutes)
  • Connecting or disconnecting most tools in Connections (if a connection looks stale, the product may still ask you to Update John)

Stopping and starting alone is not enough for settings that need this refresh. The dashboard banner tells you when latest settings are waiting on Update John.
