Telegram
Telegram is the personal channel: Slack for your team, Telegram for you. Connect Telegram from the dashboard, restrict who can talk to John, then message him with real work.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- An activated John CEO account with work credits. Start here.
- A Telegram account.
- A running private workspace, or be ready to create one after pairing.
Connect with QR (simplest)
Section titled “Connect with QR (simplest)”When QR pairing is shown on the dashboard:
- Open the Telegram card on the dashboard.
- Scan the QR code (or open the deep link) on your phone.
- Finish the Telegram prompts.
- Confirm the dashboard shows Telegram as connected.
- Update John so the connection lands on your private workspace (about three minutes; your files and memory stay).
QR pairing creates a bot for you. You do not paste a token into the browser. The person who completes pairing is typically the only one on the allowlist at first.
If QR pairing is not shown in your environment, use manual setup below.
Advanced: manual bot token
Section titled “Advanced: manual bot token”- In Telegram, talk to BotFather and create a bot. Copy the token BotFather gives you.
- On the dashboard, open Advanced: manual token and paste the token.
- Set the allowlist to the numeric Telegram user IDs that may talk to John.
- Update John. Saving the token alone does not push it to a running workspace.
Keep the token private. Do not send it in Slack or email.
Allowlist
Section titled “Allowlist”Only people you list can message John on Telegram. Tighten this if you share a device or a family chat. You can change the allowlist later; apply Update John after changes.
How to talk to John
Section titled “How to talk to John”Message the bot you connected. There is no @mention rule like Slack channels: if you can talk to the bot, John can reply.
Telegram uses your Everyday model pick from Settings. Slack-only tags like !deep do not apply here.
John can still need approval before risky sends. Telegram does not show Slack-style approval buttons. Write actions in connected apps fail closed until a grant exists (approve those from Slack when you use both channels, or ask John to draft only).
When Update John is required
Section titled “When Update John is required”Telegram connection, allowlist, and token changes need Update John. Stopping and starting the workspace is not enough. See Private workspace.
Disconnect
Section titled “Disconnect”Disconnect Telegram from the dashboard when you no longer want the bot linked. After disconnect, John stops receiving new Telegram messages for that bot.
